Sussex Teachers are working with an international language school in Hove to find qualified English teachers for at least 1 week of TEFL teaching work. We are looking for teachers to start Monday the 23rd of July and work full time until at least Friday the 27th of July, possibly for longer.

Our client is an established international language school based in Hove who are looking for TEFL teachers for 1-3 weeks. Classroom based, you would be teaching up to 14 students of various nationalities. Students are aged over 16, with the average age being 25 years and all students have a good basic understanding of English. The school is based centrally in Hove and boasts of recently refurbished Victorian classrooms, a library/study centre and café with beautiful outside areas where your pupils can study and socialise.

You will be teaching the General English course for approximately 21 hours across the week, this forms the core of their teaching programme. Morning classes begin at 9.10 and run until 1.10pm (with 2 x 20-minute breaks) with the first 2 sessions based around a coursebook, followed by a Speaking & Listening class. Afternoon lessons offer students the chance to focus on specific language areas such as Grammar & Writing and Vocabulary. Across the week you will teach 15 coursebook lessons, 5 Speaking and listening lessons, 4 Grammar & Writing lessons and 4 Vocabulary lessons. All lessons should be teacher-led, dynamic and cover the four main skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing.

It will be your responsibility to plan and deliver lessons to a high standard using the syllabus provided by the school. Teachers are encouraged to share resources and planning for the week ahead, and you will be supported by the Director of Studies to ensure that lessons address the individual needs, interests and levels of your students. Frequent monitoring of your students learning is necessary, and you will liaise with the Director of Studies and teaching team to ensure a holistic approach to students’ progress and ensure their learning is developing correctly.

We are looking for confident communicators, with experience in teaching learners with English as a Second Language. We would ideally like to hear from teachers with a TEFL certificate and university degree, though our client is open to hearing from teachers with Qualified Teacher Status that have experience in teaching English as a foreign language. Due to the immediacy of the role we also require that you hold a current DBS that is signed up to the Update Service or are able to register immediately and apply for a DBS by the end of this week.
