Headteacher job

Independent special school for boys with complex needs aged 12 - 18
Horsham, West Sussex

Sussex Teachers are working with a small independent special school for boys with behavioural difficulties to find an inspirational and dynamic Headteacher for a September 2019 start.

The school is based in Horsham and specialises in working with adolescent males who have complex needs associated with sexually inappropriate behaviour. The school can take up to 28 boys between the ages of 12 and 18 years. All pupils are LAC and have a range of SEMH difficulties. Many students have specific learning difficulties and all pupils have EHCP’s. The school does not have a governing body and is instead overseen by two proprietors and a principal manager. The school shares a site with the company Head Office and the Management, Education and Therapy Teams are all based there. The school has been graded Outstanding by Ofsted continuously since November 2013, with the last inspection in November 2017.

You will provide professional leadership and management to a small but experienced team of teachers and part-time educationalists. Reporting to senior managers and owners it will be your responsibility to contribute vision, ideas, debate, commitment and enthusiasm, ensuring every pupil in the school receives an Outstanding level of Education. Leading by example, you will model the highest standards in personal planning and delivery of a creative curriculum whilst encouraging your team to do the same. As Headteacher, you will secure high quality teaching by identifying areas for improvement, creating and implementing strategies to further improve the standards of learning and achievement for all pupils.

Our client do not require an expert in trauma, neglect or abuse as you will supported by an talented and experienced therapy team who will be able to assist and coach you in how to best deal with the complex needs of your pupils.  We are instead looking to hear from dynamic and inspiring Headteachers or Senior Leaders with demonstrable experience of whole school development and improvement. The successful candidate will bring a creative and innovative approach to improving performance and support for their pupils. We are looking for a leader who will focus on developing self-esteem and wellbeing, as well as pupil’s academic performance and/or vocational development.

You will be joining a highly successful therapeutic community, leading your own school and positively transforming the lives of many young men. Working with Proprietors who are interested and engaged with their school, you will have the opportunity to further enhance a school that improves the lives of some of the most vulnerable. If you are a truly inspirational and forward-thinking leader, with the drive and passion to change the lives of young men who have often experienced a damaged and traumatic past, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.

If you would like further details on this post, please get in touch with us on 01273 626800 where we can supply the location and name of the school as well as our full job description. If you have the passion and determination to make a difference and have a strong record of leadership then we would like to hear from you.
