Sussex Teachers are working with a small independent day school in Arundel, West Sussex to find experienced teaching assistants to join their from January 2020. In this full-time, permanent TA role you will be working with pupils aged 11 – 16 with social, emotional and mental health needs.

You will be working in a very small independent setting supporting pupils who have had a disrupted education prior to joining the school. Most of their pupils are in the care of the local authority and are current residents in the school’s affiliated homes. The school caters to young people that have been unable to access mainstream provisions, whether this was due to the complexity of needs, their level of risk in larger settings or their difficulties engaging in a larger school environment. Many display challenging behaviour and have complex learning needs.

Working in a small team, it will be your job to support the teachers’ delivery of the curriculum and contribute to the development of students. Working collaboratively with teachers in encouraging students to become independent learners, it is important that you recognise their emotional and behavioural needs whilst supporting each student’s individual education plan. We are looking for someone who views every student as an individual with the potential to succeed, and who is dedicated to improving pupil’s outcomes.

To be eligible for this position it is essential that you have experience working with young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Ideally, you will have worked within an educational setting and have a good understanding of child development and how to relate this theory to practice. It is important that you have excellent communication and relationship skills and are able to maintain good working relationships with colleagues, young people (and their families) as well as other professional organisations. You must be available full time (within term times), Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
