Sussex Teachers are working with a small independent special school for boys with behavioural difficulties to find a SEN Teaching Assistant for a September 2019 start.

Working in a very small (up to 28 pupils) secondary school near Horsham you will be supporting boys who have complex needs associated with sexually inappropriate behaviour. The teenagers are aged between 12 and 18 years and live in the care home that is attached to the school site. All students have a range of Social Emotional and Mental Health difficulties and all have an Education Health Care Plan, some students also have learning difficulties. The school has been graded Outstanding by Ofsted continuously since November 2013, with the last inspection in November 2017.

You will provide support to the teachers and students in providing outstanding outcomes for the young people and encouraging them to achieve to their full potential. This may involve giving 1:1 support to individual boys as well as supporting within the classroom. With small class sizes (groups are usually no more than six) split be either age of ability you will work closely with your pupils, motivating them to succeed and reach their individual goals.

You have experience working with students with SEMH needs, either as a Teaching Assistant/Individual needs Assistant or Care work. Ideally you will hold a certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools as well as Team Teach (or similar) and have a strong understanding of positive behaviour strategies. You are available for full time, Monday – Friday from 9 - 4 (term time only) and free to begin from the start of September.

You will be joining a highly successful team and will be supported by expert therapists, social workers and experienced education professionals who will be on hand to offer support when dealing with the specialist needs of the boys you will be working with.
