Sussex Teachers are working with a small independent secondary school in Arundel, West Sussex to find an experienced SEN / SEMH Teacher to join their team as soon as possible.

You will be working in a very small independent setting teaching pupils who have had a disrupted education prior to joining the school. With a fluctuating roll, the school is registered to take up to 20 students at any time, with a purposeful but relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Most of their pupils are in the care of the local authority and are current residents in the school’s affiliated home, with strong links between academic and welfare staff. The school caters to young people that have been unable to access mainstream provisions, whether this was due to the complexity of needs, their level of risk in larger settings or their difficulties engaging in a larger school environment. Many learners display challenging behaviour and have complex learning needs.

In this full-time teaching role, you will be working with pupils aged 11 – 16 with social, emotional and mental health needs. Working in a small team, you will teach an average of three students, and be supported by Residential Support Workers, highly trained Teaching Assistants and experienced Headteacher. Wherever possible you will teach within a single year group or key stage, teaching a KS3 or 4 curriculums based on ASDAN short courses and English and Maths at Functional Skills and GCSE's.

We are looking for someone who views every student as an individual with the potential to succeed. To be eligible for this position it is essential that you have Qualified Teacher Status and experience working with SEN. You should hold high expectations for your pupils and be able to confidently assess their progress using the schools inhouse framework. It is important that you have excellent communication and relationship skills and are able to maintain good working relationships with colleagues, young people (and their families) as well as other professional organisations.

This is a permanent position to begin as soon as possible, with the school offering a competitive salary of £27,000 rising to £30,000 with a benefits scheme and company pension.
