Would you like make a significant and positive change to a young person’s life?

Would you like to create a highly personalised curriculum with a view to transforming your pupils’ attitude to education?

Would you like to work in a specialist school with an innovative approach to education?

Sussex Teachers are working with small independent secondary school in Eastbourne, East Sussex to find an experienced SEN specialist to join their team as soon as possible.

This alternative independent school based in Eastbourne is for pupils with SEMH, aged 11-18. The centre offers full and part-time provision for pupils who have been excluded or find it difficult to be successful in mainstream schools. Most of the young people who attend the setting are LAC and arrive at a point of crisis or conflict in their lives. Through expert intervention, the centre helps them to regain a sense of confidence and self-esteem, allowing learners to refocus and experience success in education, despite the disruption to their learning caused by leaving school. Irrespective of their length of stay the centre works hard to foster lifelong learning skills that will allow students to be successful in the community.

Most students stay at the school for short periods of time, and it will be your responsibility to restore their confidence and hunger for learning, readying them to return to their mainstream classrooms. For students that stay for longer, you will develop their skills in functional English and mathematics, as well as in more vocational subjects that equip pupils for life and future employment. Some pupils arrive at the school having partially completed studies to prepare them for GCSE examinations. When this is the case, you will guide your learners to with their revision, prioritising aspects required to enable them to catch up.

We are looking for someone who is dedicated to improving pupil’s outcomes and enabling them to reach their full potential. You have experience working with young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, whether this be in Mainstream or Special settings. It is important that you have excellent communication and relationship skills and can work in partnership with parents, carers, families and outside agencies. We are looking for both Qualified Teachers and learning mentors, and for the right candidate, this long-term supply position could turn into a permanent job.
