Large Local Authority Primary
Burgess Hill, West Sussex

Sussex Teachers are working with a large primary school in Burgess Hill to find a full time SENDCo/SENCO. This large mainstream primary requires an experienced Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Coordinator to join them after the October half term and cover until at least Christmas 2019.

You will be joining one of the largest primaries in West Sussex, with approximately 500 children on roll. Your new school has been cleverly designed to maximise all the benefits of a large school, including spacious and well-equipped classrooms and excellent outdoor facilities. Located on the outskirts of Burgess Hill, the school is only a 25-minute car journey from Brighton and a minute’s walk from the local train station, with many staff traveling by train from Brighton each day.

You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEN policy, assisting class teachers in the identification and support of children with Special Education Needs. Proportion of pupils who have SEN and or disabilities in this school is in line with national averages and you will follow the school’s policies to ensure all children under your care make consistent progress. You will spend your mornings implementing interventions with children across the school and co-ordinating provisions.  In the afternoon you will have time to update pupil records and liaise with other providers, outside agencies and educational psychologists.

We are looking for an experienced SENDCO who consistently delivers great teaching and good progress for all pupils. You will have a commitment and passion for inclusion, ensuring individual pupil needs are identified early and are met through targeted provision. Ideally you will already hold the National SENCO Award (or be willing to undertake this) and the ability to lead and inspire pupils and staff so that they develop a real thirst for learning and improvement.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference, alongside an effective leadership team who have a clear vision to raise the attainment and standards for all pupils. Teaching pupils who are respectful of each other and their teachers, you will be working with a wonderful mix of children who love to learn and thrive on responsibility. Your future working environment has been described as a place where respect, kindness and love are mixed with passion, drive and energy. Leaders offer comprehensive staff training and promote opportunities for professional development, extending the freedom and opportunity for staff to develop their practice and widen their experiences. The school has recently joined the Thrive approach, with the idea that all staff become Thrive practitioners to support the social and emotional needs of their children.

If you are an experienced SENDCO who is passionate about progress for every child please get in touch with Kim at Sussex Teachers on 01273 626800 for more information.
