Sussex Teachers are recruiting for an Individual Needs Assistant (INA) to work at a large primary school in Brighton. This is a full-time role to begin in September, working with a child in a Year 5 with challenging behaviour.

You will be working in an inclusive two form entry primary school with a nursery, situated on the outskirts of Brighton in Woodingdean. The school serves a very mixed, socioeconomic community and are passionate about improving children and families' life chances. The main areas of additional needs are communication and behavioural and emotional difficulties. With a very high proportion of students eligible for pupil premium, the school offers a range of interventions to support children in making accelerated progress in maths and literacy.

You will be supporting a named KS2 child with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties who can present challenging behaviour. You will work 121 with your student to ensure they follow direction from their class teacher and encourage and motivate them towards completing their work. You will manage any disruptive behaviour according to the students individual behaviour plan and ensure that the appropriate strategies are utilised when praising their achievements. You will work alongside the class teacher and SENCO to ensure your student is making good progress with both the academic and social reintegration within the classroom.

You have experience supporting children with special educational needs as either a Teaching Assistant or Individual Needs Assistant. Ideally, you will have supported pupils with challenging behaviours before and hold a qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools and/or Team Teach. You will be available from September 2019 for full time work (term time only) and able to take up a permanent contract with our client.

If successful, you will be supported by an expert team of Learning Mentors, Child Welfare Officers and Specialist teachers to ensure you have the expert knowledge and strategies in place to provide high quality class-based education. This is a permanent teaching assistant role for term time only and would be an ideal role for someone who is passionate about making learning fun and inclusive.
