Individual Needs Assistant (INA) in Brighton

Teaching Assistants
£60-£80 per day
Primary School on the outskirt of Brighton
Brighton, East Sussex

Sussex Teachers are recruiting for a full time Individual Needs Assistant (INA) to work at a small primary school on the outskirts of Brighton. This role will begin in September working with a Year 3 child with additional needs. The role is at least until Christmas, but could go on longer.

You will be joining a small very friendly and nurturing primary school on the outskirts of Brighton with a wonderful leadership team who are supportive and caring. The school is very proud to have received the School of Sanctuary Award from Sanctuary by the Sea team. This means that they are a welcoming school to everyone and have a greater understanding of the challenges faced by people seeking refugee status.

As an Individual Needs Assistant, you will supervise and provide support for one child, within a specialist unit and in the mainstream classroom. The child, who will be new to the school in September, has speech and language needs and shows very challenging behaviour, with bouts of violence, so Team Teach training would be useful. The unit is very well staffed with 4 staff to 11 children. You will promote the inclusion and acceptance of your pupils and encourage them to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher. You will monitor your pupils’ response to the learning activities and provide feedback on their progress and achievement to the class teacher. Under their guidance you will adapt activities to make learning accessible to achieve the appropriate outcomes for your students.

We are looking for someone with Individual Needs Assistant experience, preferably with children with complex needs, either in a mainstream or SEN setting. You will need to be resilient and have good behaviour management skills. You must have a minimum of 3 months recent experience working in schools and be able to evidence this through Good references. You will be available full time, to begin work at 8.30 am until 3.20pm. This includes break and lunch duties, though you will get a 30-minute break during the day.

You will be paid a competitive hourly rate and once registered with Sussex Teachers will have exclusive access to TA and INA roles at our partnership schools. We work closely with schools across Sussex to find education staff for both temporary and part time roles and will work on your behalf to find roles that suit you and your career. When this assignment is completed you will benefit from working with a specialist education consultant who can assist you in finding future roles.
